Interactive broadband speeds map

Speed

The UK’s telecom regulator, has published a new interactive map, which lets you see both broadband speed and mobile coverage where you live.

The new tool, which launched last week, uses data directly from broadband providers to give you an indication of how fast your internet connection will be in those areas. Simply type in your postcode, and you'll be able to see both the average speed of standard broadband through the telephone wire, and the average speed of super fast optic connections.
The speed checker can be used by companies looking for new areas to relocate to, or open a new office in. Private users who are moving into a new area can also use it to see what kind of broadband performance they're likely to get.
.Of course, it's worth noting that these are average speeds - not exact. If the average download speed are given as 17Mb, for example, that doesn't mean that is what you will definitely get. You should get a more accurate indication of how fast your connection will be from a provider when switching.
As well as the speed checker, the interactive map also shows mobile coverage, including voice, 3G and 4G performance. Again though, these are a rough guide - useful to be sure, but don't take the information here as gospel.
